Mario kart wii. UGH SO ANNOYED!?

K i go online, im new to this btw.. And im like awesome im in first! The third lap is about halfway done and i get hit by a blue shell, I say no big deal.. but then 5 seconds later hit by like 5 projectiles!! then i get 9th place.. Do you guys get annoyed by all the damage an item can do? Oh yea and how do you do a wheelie?
