Do they have any legal responsibilities to return my money?

We adopted a 15 week old puppy from a nonprofit animal rescue group from out of state. We paid a 250.00 dollar adoption fee and another 135.00 for transport fees. I was told the dog was healthy, but when I picked the puppy up from transport she seemed to have some sort of cold, coughing and sneezing. When I contacted them they admitted she had Kennel Cough and that I should have received medication when I picked her up. It turned out to be an infection and I spent over a thousand dollars at my vets trying to get her better. She died less than three weeks after I got her. They knew she wasn't healthy when they sent her and never told me. Now I have spent over a thousand dollars and have to deal with the heartache of the death of our family pet. Do they have any legal responsibility?
