Is it ok to wear cowboy boots to a wedding reception?

Not me but my 11 year old step son Ryan. He's got a pair of grey dress slacks and a dark blue dress shirt, its kind of pointless to buy him dress shoes he's never going to wear again, so he asked me if he could just wear his Cowboy boots to the reception, which is just at a banquet hall. The boots are Dark grey in color. Think he'd be ok going and out on the dance floor?
